Article: Alamo Post 2, The American Legion Concert Band Invites New Members

The American Legion Alamo Post 2 Concert Band is busy preparing for a brand new season of rehearsals and concerts.  As they look forward to their third full year in 2022, the Band Director has set a goal for “50” band members by 2023.  The band currently has 35 very active musicians and would like to build on that number to ensure that the band continues to be a strong and sustainable organization.

Howard Gravely, Band Director, says of the initiative, “While we have a great, talented group of musicians in our band, we invite other instrumentalists who love playing their instruments to join in the fun.”   Prospective members are encouraged to visit and join at any time.  Instrumentalists that haven’t played since high school or college will find understanding, fellow musicians who went through the same “lip-building” process when they joined the band.

The band is a traditional concert band with woodwinds, brass, and percussion. The director of the band is Howard Gravely, retired graduate from the Naval School of Music.

Rehearsals: Tuesday evenings at 7:00 p.m. in the American Legion Alamo Post 2 Dance Hall, 3518 Fredericksburg Rd, San Antonio, Texas.

When you join the Concert Band, you will find a group of musicians of all ages, from all walks of life, who come to band because they love music, love to play their instruments, and enjoy playing in a quality group that is fun and active. It is a stress-free environment! The band members hail from different communities in and around San Antonio. The yearly schedule for the band includes a Holiday Concert in December, Concerts for Patriotic Holidays, Legion Events, a series of “Concerts in the Park” in the summer, and concerts in surrounding communities.

NoteGuest members need not be members of the American Legion. Come and join us for a wonderful Life Experience!
